Sarasota Inshore Fishing Charter

Looking for a solid day of fishing without the rough seas? This 4-hour private inshore charter around Sarasota, Bradenton, and Anna Maria Island puts you right where the fish are. We'll cruise the shallow flats and weave through the mangroves in a comfortable Hydra-Sports center console that handles beautifully in these protected waters. With room for up to 4 anglers, you get a personalized experience whether you're bringing the family or just a few fishing buddies. The best part? We handle all the gear and know exactly where to find the action based on tides, weather, and what's been biting lately.

What to Expect on the Water

These inshore waters are what Florida fishing is all about. We'll start by reading the conditions – checking wind direction, tide movement, and water clarity to decide our game plan. Some days we're poling the grass flats looking for tailing redfish, other times we're working the dock pilings for snook or cruising the deeper channels for cobia. The beauty of inshore fishing here is the variety – one cast might land you a hard-fighting red, the next could surprise you with a silver king or a hefty tripletail hanging under floating debris. The water stays relatively calm compared to offshore trips, making it perfect for kids or anyone who gets seasick easily. Plus, the scenery is top-notch with dolphins playing nearby and manatees popping up to say hello.

Techniques & Tackle We Use

We fish light to medium tackle here – usually spinning reels with 15-20 pound braid that gives you great feel and fighting power without spooking fish in the clear shallows. Live bait is king in these waters, so we'll rig up with pinfish, pilchards, or shrimp depending on what we're targeting. For the structure fishing around docks and mangroves, we'll use jigs and soft plastics that can get down quick and work through the snags. When we're sight fishing the flats, it's all about presentation – making that perfect cast to a cruising redfish without blowing them out of the area. Don't worry if you're new to this style of fishing – I'll walk you through reading the water, spotting fish, and making those money shots that turn into bent rods and big smiles.

Species You'll Want to Hook

Redfish are the bread and butter of Sarasota inshore fishing, and for good reason. These copper-colored bruisers love our shallow grass flats and oyster bars, especially during the cooler months from November through March. They're aggressive feeders that will absolutely slam a well-placed bait, then peel line like crazy on their first run. What makes reds so special here is how we can sight fish for them – watching them cruise the shallows with their backs almost out of the water, then dropping a bait right in their path. A good slot red (18-27 inches) makes excellent table fare, while the oversized bulls we catch and release put up fights you'll remember for years.

Cobia show up in bigger numbers during their spring and fall migrations, typically March through May and September through November. These brown sharks (as locals call them) are curious fish that will actually approach the boat, making for some exciting sight fishing opportunities. They hang around channel markers, crab traps, and floating debris, often swimming right at the surface where you can see them coming from way off. Cobia are excellent eating and great fighters – they'll make several powerful runs and try to wrap you up in whatever structure they can find. Landing a 30-40 pound cobia on light tackle is a real accomplishment.

Tripletail are one of the most unique fish we target, and Anna Maria Island waters are famous for them. These oddly-shaped fish float on their sides next to channel markers, crab trap floats, and debris lines, looking just like floating leaves until you get close. They're around year-round but really turn on during the warmer months from April through October. Tripletail are notorious for being picky eaters – they'll look at your bait for what feels like forever before deciding to eat or swim away. When they do bite, they jump like crazy and taste incredible. Finding and catching tripletail is almost like a treasure hunt, and guests always get excited when we spot one floating near a marker.

Spanish mackerel bring the fast action when they're around, usually showing up in good numbers during spring and fall. These torpedo-shaped speedsters travel in schools and will attack anything that moves quickly through the water. We'll often find them busting bait on the surface near grass flats edges or around structure. They're perfect for kids or anyone who wants steady action – when you find a school, you can catch them one after another until your arms get tired. Spanish mackerel are also great bait for bigger fish like king mackerel or sharks if we decide to try some different tactics during the trip.

Snook are the crown jewel of Florida inshore fishing, and our waters around Sarasota and Bradenton hold some beautiful fish. They love hanging around mangrove shorelines, dock pilings, and bridge structures, especially during the warmer months from May through September. Snook are ambush predators that will explode on a bait, often jumping clear out of the water multiple times during the fight. They're also incredibly line-shy and structure-oriented, so getting them away from the pilings or mangroves takes skill and a little luck. The slot limit keeps the fishery healthy, and a fresh snook fillet is hard to beat on the dinner table.
